Professional development opportunities for new and experienced professionals, exploring foundational concepts with real-world application, best practices, and current industry trends that can be immediately applied in the workplace.

 

 
    

Morning Session: 8:00am to 12:00pm 

Learning About Learning

Facilitator: Kim Whiteside

Think about the best learning experience you’ve ever had. Chances are it wasn’t the content of the course but what the presenter did with the content that made the difference. Explore the dynamic ways in which adults acquire, retain, recall, and use new information. Participate in interactive activities that will help you motivate adult learners and connect learning to performance. In addition, apply principles of adult learning to a current work project. Facilitator Kim Whiteside will lead you through practical exercises with real-world applications that may help you become a better learner as well.

                    

By the end of the morning session, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain characteristics of adult learners and adult learning theories
  • Relate concepts of learning styles to effective learning experiences
  • Explore learning methodologies, such as: competency-based learning, contextualized learning, and personalized learning
  • Align principles of adult learning with instructional plans and learning materials
  • Connect strategies of adult learning to on-the-job performance
  • Demonstrate a variety of teaching strategies/techniques designed to enhance the individual and group adult learning experience

      

 
   

Kim has over 20 years of experience in the adult learning field. She has a master’s degree in Adult Learning and Performance from Drake University and holds three professional certifications: Executive Coaching, Experiential Learning, and Career Counseling. In her current role as Instructional Systems Designer at Metropolitan Community College, Kim partners with faculty and staff to create engaging learning experiences for both credit and non-credit courses.       

 

 

Afternoon Session:1:00pm to 5:00pm

Using Instructional Design Essential to Drive Outcomes &Deliver Business Results

Facilitator: Tricia Danielsen

In this session, Tricia Danielsen will give you a basic understanding of instructional design research, models and tools, and help you develop skills for designing effective employee development and training programs.  Experiential activities will enable you to assess business needs, identify performance gaps, and work with stakeholders, as well as explore evaluation models, requirements, and reporting results to help you re-evaluate training and move from training "events" to more meaningful learning, knowledge transfer and design application.

By the end of the afternoon session, attendees will be able to:

  • Address assessing business needs, and identifying gaps, and working with stakeholders
  • Explore evaluation models, requirements, and reporting results
  • Identify and utilize various learning design principles, models, and methodologies
   

Tricia Danielsen is the Principal and Founder of Meeting Tree Solutions, LLC, an organization that focuses on growing businesses, growing people and growing profits.  Ms. Danielsen has been working in the field of leadership and talent development for more than 20 years, and has held a variety of training leadership positions. She has championed the design, construction, and launch of multiple corporate universities, most notably as the Global Corporate University Leader for ACI Worldwide.

Tricia has been honored to speak at many key learning leadership conferences around the world, including: Chief Learning Officer Symposium, Corporate University Week, SkillSoft Perspectives, Association for Talent Development Leadership Conference, and many more. Ms. Danielsen has been selected to the CLO Business Intelligence Board, the IQPC CU Week Advisory Board, and the Human Capital Executive Research Board and has served on the board of directors as President for Association for Talent Development – Nebraska Chapter.
