ATD Nebraska presents:
People can often struggle to imagine realistic variables out of fear of making mistakes. Games can help people shed their fear. As people become less stressed and more open-minded, they are more likely to challenge inborn misconceptions. That’s exactly what Michael Fryda, 2010 Nebraska Teacher of the Year, is doing in his classroom. He uses the power of gamification to help students engage in critical and lateral thinking. Michael places students in charge of simulated real-world decisions as practice for future choices.
During this session for ATD Nebraska, Michael will highlight how gamification can provide a safe environment that opens up willingness to confront difficult decisions. He will also address common barriers that stall leaders in developing gamification as part of their leadership toolkit.
The question is, “How might gamification add to your skills in developing talent at your organization?”

Michael Fryda

Michael Fryda is a high school teacher passionate about using games to promote critical thinking. He has sponsored a Game Club at his school to teach students strategic thinking and strong social interactions. Michael is Teacher Outreach Coordinator for Spielbound, a non-profit Board Game Library in Omaha. In 2010 he was honored as Nebraska’s State Teacher of the Year.
